§ Miss HerbisonA claimant whose period of sickness or unemployment begins after the start of the new scheme on 6th October 1966 can get up to 156 days' supplement. The intention of the supplement is to provide for the early months of absence from work and the extent to which it is payable to a claiment who was already getting flat-rate benefit at the start of the new scheme must accordingly depend on the length of time for which he had then been sick or unemployed.
