§ Mr. G. Campbellasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied that the access roads to the Cairngorm ski slopes and the public transport available will be adequate for the increase in winter sports traffic expected this winter as a result of new hotels and the foreign travel restrictions; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RossWork now in progress should provide an 18 ft. road from Coylum Bridge to Coire Cas for the winter of 1967–68, and I hope to authorise in this financial year a further scheme from Aviemore to Coylum Bridge to complete the whole road from the junction with the trunk road A9.
For this winter the work as far as Glenmore Lodge is being organised to minimise interference with traffic; work from Glenmore Lodge to Coire Cas has only just started and the immediate aim will be to improve driving conditions as much as possible before the skiing season gets into full swing.
Public transport is a matter for the operators, subject to the authority of the Traffic Commissioners; but I understand that much of the local movement of skiers is by car or private hire.
