§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will give the total number of university students at 31st October, 1966, the total number of new entrants for a first degree or diploma at that date, and the corresponding figures for October, 1965.
§ Mr. Goronwy Roberts184,510, of whom, I am informed by the University Grants Committee, 54,058 were new entrants. The corresponding figures last year were 168,114 and 52,577 respectively. These are provisional counts, and the full-year total figure is normally somewhat higher.
