HC Deb 15 November 1966 vol 736 cc52-3W
53. Mr. Heffer

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps he is taking to reinflate the economy, especially in view of the rapid rise in unemployment.

Mr. Callaghan

Any necessary measures to increase the pressure of demand will be taken in the light of a general assessment of the economic situation and especially of improvements in our balance of payments.

Sir C. Osborne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in view of the fact that the seamen's strike caused a drain on sterling, what special measures he is taking to safeguard Great Britain's currency during the freeze-period of unofficial strikes in the motor trade.

Mr. Callaghan

None, but I would refer the hon. Gentleman to the Answer which I gave to the hon. Member for Banbury (Mr. Marten) on Tuesday 25th October.—[Vol. 734, c. 799.]
