Mr. David Price

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many computers are currently in use in public departments; what make they are; and at what capital cost they operate.

There are 65 computers in use for administrative work in Government Departments. Of these, 2 were supplied by Associated Electrical Industries Ltd., 3 by De La Rue Bull Machines Ltd., 5 by Elliott-Automation Ltd., 13 by English Electric-Leo-Marconi Computers Ltd., 15 by International Business Machines (U.K.) Ltd., 25 by Interational Computers and Tabulators Ltd., 1 by Monroe Calculating Machine Co. Ltd., and 1 by Remington Rand Ltd. (Univac Division).

It is not the practice to disclose the capital cost of equipment purchased by competitive tender.
