§ Mr. J. H. Osbornasked the Minister of Power if he will tabulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT, the value of the total 48W capital tied up in the activities of the Central Electricity Generating Board for generation, transmission, training, safety and welfare, and research, and for shareholdings in subsidiary companies, electrical installation, development and construction, and property on 31st March, 1966, stating turnover and profit in the preceding year, number employed, and return on net worth expressed as a percentage, respectively, for each activity and in total.
§ Mr. MarshThe principal business of the C.E.G.B. is the generation and supply in bulk of electricity to the Area Electricity Boards in England and Wales. The Board's other activities make a very small contribution to their overall operations.
Table 11 at page 46 of the Board's Annual Report and Accounts for 1965–66 gives the principal information for which the hon. Member asks. Further detail is contained in the statements supporting the Accounts and, in respect of employment, in Appendix 7 to the Report and Accounts.
§ Mr. J. H. Osbornasked the Minister of Power what was the value of the capital investment undertaken by the Central Electricity Generating Board in the year ended 31st March, 1966; how much of this was purchased through outside contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers; and how much was installed, manufactured and erected by the appropriate departments of the Central Electricity Generating Board.
§ Mr. MarshCapital expenditure by the C.E.G.B. in the year ended 31st March, 1966, was £407.3 million. I understand from the Board that payments to outside contractors, manufacturers and suppliers accounted for about 98 per cent. of this.
