asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the total additional costs to the three Services directly or indirectly attributable to the Rhodesian unilateral declaration of independence.

Since the Rhodesian illegal declaration of independence the Royal Air Force has incurred additional expenditure of the order of £2.8 million on the deployment of the Javelin air defence force and its supporting units to Zambia and of £125,000 on the air surveillance of the Mozambique channel. No additional expenditure has been incurred by the Royal Navy or the Army.
