§ 3. Mr. Geoffrey Lloydasked the Minister of Land and Natural Resources how many local authorities have embarked upon the programmes of tree planting outlined in Command Paper No. 2928; and what Exchequer grants are now available for this purpose.
§ Mr. SkeffingtonExchequer grants are now available for 75 per cent. of total approved expenditure by local authorities on tree planting in national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty. It is proposed that, in forthcoming legislation for the countryside, this arrangement should be extended to all parts of the country. As far as I am aware, local authorities are not embarking upon any additional programmes in anticipation of that legislation, although some councils—like the Greater London Council—have already an extensive tree planting programme.
