HC Deb 11 November 1966 vol 735 cc385-6W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what initiatives he is taking to promote the training of regional planners at institutions of higher education.

Mr. Ross

The training of professional staff is largely a matter for the professional bodies concerned, who are fully alive to the needs, and intervention by me would not be appropriate.

My particular concern is to ensure that the educational facilities match the present and future needs of students during their professional training, and my Department consults the professional bodies about this as occasion demands. University output of qualified planners is in fact being increased and action is also being taken to expand output from the colleges of art.
