Mr. Pymasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will amend the appropriate regulations 327W so as to prevent married women teachers, who have elected not to pay full rate National Insurance contributions, from having their sick pay reduced by an amount equal to National Insurance earnings-related sickness benefit, which they cannot receive but for which they have to pay contributions.
§ Mr. RedheadThese are not statutory regulations but recommendations for the guidance of local education authorities, drawn up by a joint conference representing teachers' associations and employers' associations. I understand the joint conference is aware of the problem to which the hon. Member has drawn attention.
