Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what steps he is taking to reduce the numbers of senior officials employed at his Department;

(2) how many officials above the rank of assistant secretary are employed in his Department; and what increase has taken place over the last two years.

Mr. Healey

The number of senior officials is constantly under review and reductions are made whenever practicable. The present total of 77 is three less than the total two years ago.

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many officials above the ranks of assistant secretary are employed at the new Operations Analysis Section at West Byfleet.
