Mr. Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his present estimate of the effects of the Selective Employment Tax and the Government's July measures on Scotland.

Friend's Question on 27th July a third school was mistakenly included. The detailed information on the two schools is as follows:

It is too early yet to assess in any detail the effect of the July measures and the Selective Employment Tax on the Scottish economy as a whole or on any particular part of Scotland. The Government are, however, keeping the position under close review.
