HC Deb 09 November 1966 vol 735 cc311-2W
Mr. Edward Lyons

asked the Minister of Health, what steps he is taking to promote research and inquiry into late-pregnancy oxygen-starvation in the womb and into the feasibility of the development and safe use in Great Britain of the South African decompression technique to reduce brain-damage before birth, the number of deaths from toxaemia in pregnancy and the duration of maternal labour.

Mr. K. Robinson

My Department sponsors a searching and continuing enquiry into all causes of maternal death, and research into problems of placental insuffiency is carried out in many hospitals. Several hospitals including University College Hospital and Kings College Hospital have investigated the use of the South African decompression technique.
