§ 91. Sir Clive Bossomasked the Minister of Transport from which organisations she has received representations against her proposal to raise the minimum age for riding motor cycles from 16 to 17 years; and what replies she has sent.
§ Mr. John MorrisWe have consulted 97 organisations about this proposal. Of those who have so far replied 23 support and 5 oppose it. We have also received a number of letters volunteering comments.
Location Details London— Albert Bridge A reversing one-way scheme, inward during the morning peak and outward during the evening peak, with two-way working at other times. Chelsea Bridge Three lanes inward and one lane outward during the morning peak. Hammersmith Bridge A composite scheme for clearing queues out of Hammersmith roundabout during the evening peak. Lea Bridge Road A reversing centre lane arrangement during peak hours. Manchester— Oxford Street. A reversing one-way scheme during peak hours with two-way working at other times. Upper Brook Street A reversing centre lane arrangement during peak hours. Oxford— Magdalen Bridge Two lanes inward and one lane outward except for one hour during the evening peak, Mondays to Fridays, when flow on the centre lane is reversed. Portsmouth— Commercial Road A local experiment on a three-lane carriageway to encourage traffic to form two lanes in the peak direction. Mersey Tunnel A reversing centre lane. The following projected schemes have been brought to the notice of my Department:— Location Details Manchester— A.565 under Seaforth Bridge, Crosby A reversing centre lane on a three-lane carriageway. Nottingham— Trent Bridge A reversing centre lane on a five-lane carriageway, if the carriageway cannot be widened to six lanes within existing highway limits.
