HC Deb 09 November 1966 vol 735 c283W
60. Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, in view of the recent drowning tragedy in the Monkland Canal, Coatbridge, and the foul condition of the water, he will take steps to complete the infilling of the canal throughout the remainder of the burgh of Coatbridge.

Dr. Dickson Mabon

The town council has almost completed its scheme for culverting and filling in a first section of the canal. My right hon. Friend has approved in principle its proposals for the second section which includes the area where the drowning occurred, and the council will be seeking tenders for the work.
