HC Deb 09 November 1966 vol 735 c288W
69. Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what reductions he is now planning to make in the British Army of the Rhine; what saving in foreign exchange he expects these to achieve; and whether he intends to make such reductions unilaterally.

Mr. Healey

I have nothing to add at present to the Answer I gave to the hon. Member for Salford, East (Mr. Frank Allaun) on 19th October.—[Vol. 734, c. 208.]

Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether, in view of the refusal of the West German Government to finance a greater part of the cost of the British Army of the Rhine, he will now take immediate steps to withdraw British forces from Germany.

Mr. Healey

I have nothing to add to the reply given on 25th October by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer to the hon. Members for South Angus (Mr. Bruce-Gardyne) and West Lothian (Mr. Dalyell).—[Vol. 734, c. 804.]
