HC Deb 09 November 1966 vol 735 c310W
Mr. Anderson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action he proposes to take in the light of the prices and incomes policy, following the decision of the Bristol and West Building Society to raise their mortgage interest rate from 6¾ per cent. to 7⅛ per cent. backdated to 1st September against the recommendation of the Building Societies Association to postpone increases until 1st January.

Mr. Callaghan

I have received a copy of the letter addressed by the Bristol and West Building Society in which it explained the position to my hon. Friend and in the circumstances no action appears to be called for.
