§ Mr. Evelyn Kingasked the Minister of Transport what factors have caused her to increase the number of civil servants in her Department.
§ Mrs. CastleThe main factors have been the appointment of some 335 extra driving examiners to meet the greatly increased demand for tests, about 170 extra examiners to enforce the provisions of the Road Traffic Act, 1960, in the interests of road safety, and some 100 extra staff to implement the expanding road programme. These figures exclude the necessary supporting staff.
