asked the Minister of Health if he will now take steps, by legislation or otherwise, to require all tablets, pills and capsules to be marked with an identifying code number.

Identification through colour, shape or some other form of code is currently being studied by the Pharmaceutical Society, the British Medical Association and the pharmaceutical industry, and the need for legislation to facilitate such identification will be considered in the general review of medicines legislation which is well advanced. A number of firms already code products for the purposes of identification.
