Mr. Onslow

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in the interests of staff economy, he will institute a system of acknowledging correspondence by printed cards, as is the practice of a number of other Departments, instead of by typed and signed letters as at present.

I am obliged to the hon. Member for his suggestion but as I find on inquiry that the proposed change would not enable the staff cost of my office to be reduced I would prefer to
