§ 52. Mr. Molloyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the recent murders of police officers, he will now seek to amend the 1965 Act relating to firearms, to make it an indictable offence merely to carry and /or possess such weapons.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsNo. The 1965 Firearms Act created new offences related to the carriage of firearms and prescribed heavy penalties, and I do not consider that a further change in the law along the lines suggested would produce worthwhile results. I am however actively considering new legislation in relation to shotguns.
