HC Deb 02 November 1966 vol 735 cc113-4W
94. Sir Clive Bossom

asked the Minister of Transport whether the experiments of traffic giving way from the right at roundabouts are completed; and what conclusions she has reached upon them.

Mr. John Morris

In agreement with the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Wales my right hon. Friend has decided that a general advisory rule should be introduced forthwith to the effect that vehicles entering a roundabout should give way to vehicles already in it. Since this is a general rule upright give way signs will not be necessary but the points of entry to all roundabouts will be marked on the road surface by single broken white lines as soon as possible. There will be exceptional cases where the general rule will not apply, but this will be clearly indicated by road markings in the roundabout.

This general rule will be reviewed after it has been in operation for a year.
