HC Deb 02 November 1966 vol 735 c124W
Sir W. Bromley-Davenport

asked the Postmaster-General when the Post Office will have finished its inquiries regarding the reorganising of telephone directories; when the inquiries regarding Manchester will be started; how many complaints he has received that subscribers to the Manchester directory cannot be included in the directories of neighbouring areas; and whether he will give an assurance that the subscriber has the right to have his name in the telephone book which covers his post town.

Mr. Edward Short

I hope to be in a position to make an announcement within the next few months. In the meantime I regret that I cannot allow subscribers generally to have entries in two or more books, because this would add significantly to the already excessive bulk of most directories. In the past five years we have received three complaints about the non-inclusion of Manchester subscribers in the directories of neighbouring areas, and one representation from a subscriber whose entries appear in the Liverpool directory but whose post town falls in the Manchester telephone area.
