§ Mr. Harry Howarthasked the Postmaster-General what consultations took place with the staff associations before the decision was reached to place the Wellingborough Post Office under the control of the Head Postmaster at Northampton; what representations he has received regarding lack of adequate consultation; and if he will postpone the date of implementation in order that further representations can be made to him.
§ Mr. Edward ShortThe amalgamation of Head Post Office districts where this would be both efficient and more economical has long been Post Office policy. Staff Associations were told at the beginning of August of the intention to put Wellingborough under the control of Northampton. Since then there has been extensive local consultation. Representations have been made locally about the date of implementation and this has84W already been postponed. The Regional Director has offered to meet staff representatives this week and I hope this will enable their outstanding problems to be resolved.
