HC Deb 25 May 1966 vol 729 c96W
Mr. Hannan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied that the building alterations and increased personnel at Glasgow sheriff courts will effectively overcome the congested conditions and arrears of cases; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ross

The arrears of cases have been substantially reduced and the interval between pleading and trial diet in summary criminal cases has been shortened.

Alterations to the courthouse to provide additional court and office accommodation are in progress. Any inconvenience to persons having business in the courts is regretted; the work will however be completed shortly.

These are interim measures only, and the Court House Commissioners are proceeding with their plans for building a new courthouse.
