§ Mr. Evelyn Kingasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will recommend the appointment of a Royal Commission or other impartial body to investigate and appraise psychological evidence on the extent to which murders and other crimes are, or have been, inspired by sadism or promiscuity depicted by or discussed on television programmes, by films, or by the increasing availability of pornographic literature.
§ Mr. TaverneThe Television Research Committee is already charged with the initiation and co-ordination of research into the influence of television. My right hon. Friend will keep in mind the possibility of further research on the lines suggested, but these matters are exceptionally difficult to investigate satisfactorily.
