HC Deb 19 May 1966 vol 728 cc295-6W
87. Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress is being made in the consultations now going on with other countries on fisheries conservation to agree net sizes and to ensure that such agreements are enforced.

Mr. Ross

The North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission, meeting in Edinburgh last week, recommended an increase from 1st June, 1967 in the minimum mesh sizes of trawl nets in the north-western part of its area to bring them into line with those which come into force in the north-eastern part of its area on 1st January next.

The Commission also decided to hold a special meeting in London in November to consider further the question of international inspection of fishing vessels on the high seas.
