HC Deb 19 May 1966 vol 728 c286W
Mr. Clifford Williams

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how far local authorities now classified as development districts will qualify for Exchequer grants if derelict land in their areas is selected for reclamation.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

I am empowered to make grants of up to 85 per cent. of the eligible cost incurred by local authorities in reclaiming derelict land in areas classified as development districts under the Local Employment Act 1960.

Before a grant can be paid, however, the Board of Trade must be satisfied that the land concerned is derelict, neglected or unsightly, that it is likely to remain so for a considerable period and that the completed scheme will help towards the provision of long-term employment in the development districts by enabling the land to be brought into use or improving the amenities of the neighbourhood.
