§ Mrs. McKayasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps the Government are taking to support and participate in United Nations Year for Human Rights in 1968.
§ Mrs. WhiteHer Majesty's Government have frequently stated their support for the project. We have offered to organise in the United Kingdom in 1968 an international human rights seminar under United Nations auspices, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations has accepted our offer. We shall of course take part in the International Conference on Human Rights which is to be 15W the main feature of the year and we are members of the Preparatory Committee established by the General Assembly to complete preparations for the Conference. The United Kingdom voted for General Assembly Resolution 2081 (XX) which makes a number of recommendations to member States in connection with the International Year for Human Rights, and the question of official participation in the activities recommended is now under consideration.
