asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the average rise in wages and earned income between 1946 and today.

Total income from wages and salaries is estimated to have increased from £4,950 million in 1946 to £18,855 million in 1965, equivalent to an average rise of about 7¼ per cent. per annum In the same period total income from self-employment increased from £1,147 million to £2,462 million or by about 4 per cent. per annum.
