HC Deb 05 May 1966 vol 727 cc151-2W
Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will publish a table showing the numbers of persons over 65, over 70, over 75, over 80, over 85, over 90, over 95 and over 100 years of age, in the seven crofting counties and the County of Inverness, respectively; whether he will give an estimate of those requiring geriatric treat- ment; and upon what information this estimate is based.

Mr. Ross

The latest figures available are those obtained at the 1961 census and are as follows:

Age Seven crofting counties Inverness County
65 to 69 13,347 3,712
70 to 74 10,977 3,118
75 to 79 8,043 2,220
80 to 84 4,656 1,293
85 to 89 1,956 597
90 to 94 517 156
95 to 99 82 24
100 and over 7 2
Total aged 65 and over 39,585 11,122
An estimate of those requiring geriatric treatment could not be produced without a disproportionate amount of labour and cost.
