§ 44. Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Minister of Transport if she will set up an authority to check the safety of motor vehicle designs; and if she will seek power to make it an offence to sell vehicles whose safety standards have not been approved.
§ Mrs. CastleIt is an offence under the Road Traffic Acts to sell a vehicle for use on the roads which does not comply with my Construction and Use Regulations. The White Paper on Road Safety legislation last December announced the Government's intention to seek powers to introduce a system of type approval for new goods vehicles, and that we would be ready to consider its extension to passenger vehicles later.
