HC Deb 04 May 1966 vol 727 cc135-6W
Rear-Admiral Morgan Giles

asked the Postmaster-General (1) how many telephone circuits will be working between London and Hanover during the forthcoming air exhibition in Germany;

(2) how many telephone circuits will be operating between London and Turin by the time of the Turin Air Show in June.

Mr. Benn

Calls to Hanover from this country are switched through the Dusseldorf or Hamburg automatic centres with which we have 96 and 89 circuits respectively.

Those telephone customers in this country who have international subscriber dialling facilities can dial their own calls to Hanover. I have not therefore arranged for any direct telephone circuits between London and Hanover for the air exhibition.

Normal routings will also be in use for the Turin Air Show. There are three telephone circuits between London and Turin; in addition, calls for Turin will be switched via the Milan Exchange automatic centre with which I expect to have 46 circuits by June.

The provision of telephone facilities for international calls at the Hanover and Turin Air Shows and between the grounds and the local exchanges is the responsibility of the German and Italian authorities respectively.
