HC Deb 04 May 1966 vol 727 c120W
77. Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Minister of Transport, if she will investigate the question of the levy of port rates on exported goods, with a view to removing any impediment to the export drive.

Mr. Swingler

The level of port charges is small in relation to the total cost of exports. Measures for speeding the movement of exports to eliminate costly delays are, however, one of the main aims of the Economic Development Committee on the Movement of Exports; and much has already been done by the port authorities with the encouragement of the National Ports Council.

The reform and simplification of the ports' charges structures are being examined by the National Ports Council. A standardised and simplified form of export documentation has recently been recommended by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade.
