Mr. James Johnson

asked the Minister of Transport whether she will reconsider the opening of the Beverley to York railway on a single-track basis with the system of tokenless block working.

My right hon. Friend has no power to require the Railways Board to reopen any line which has been closed. The Chief Inspecting Officer of Railways would, however, be glad to consider with the Board the use of tokenless block working if it wished to reopen the line.
