3. Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that danger is caused by some 100,000 blankets being sold a year which do not conform to the current British Standard; and what progress he has made in the review he is making of this matter.
§ Mr. George ThomasWhile compliance with the British Standard is desirable in the case of all brands of electric blankets, my right hon. Friend has no evidence that those which do not carry the "kite-mark" of the British Standards Institution are unsafe. He is not yet satisfied that there is a need for regulations, but if any particular brand of blanket is shown to be unsafe my Department will not hesitate to take the matter up with the manufacturers.
