asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what decision he has reached on the effect of the Waverley-Hawick-Carlisle railway service on the Government plan for the economic development of the Borders.

Mr. Ross

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport and I are considering this in the light of the expansion now proposed for the Borders in the White Paper on the Scottish Economy.
