HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 cc596-7W
Mr. McNair-Wilson

asked the Minister of Technology (1) which of the studies which have been made by the scientific and technological teams have been completed; and on what dates he received the reports concerned;

(2) if he will list the members of his scientific or technological teams which are making studies of selected industries or processes, showing date of appointment, qualifications and salary in each case;

(3) if he will list the vacancies on the scientific or technological teams which are making the studies of selected industries and processes, showing the qualifications sought in each instance.

Mr. Cousins

It is not the practice to inform the House about reports produced in the normal course of departmental business. It is part of the responsibility of the Divisions of my Department to undertake studies as required, in collaboration with experts from other Government Departments, Public Corporations, Universities and, of course, from industry itself. This is a continuing process and requires a staff of both administrators and technologists.

The number of scientific and technological staff engaged on such studies will accordingly vary from time to time, but the total of such staff in post at 28th February, 1966, in the relevant Divisions in the salary range from £2,250 and upwards was 46.

The Ministry assumed sponsorship responsibility for the electrical and mechanical engineering industries at the beginning of this year and a considerable increase in scientific and technological staff
