HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 c529W
Brigadier Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Defence, if he will state the total future tonnage of keels to be laid down for the Royal Navy in the year 1966–67; and if it will equal the 71,500 tons laid down during 1965–66.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

My reply on 2nd March gave figures for a period of 16 months. During the financial year 1966–67, for the same types of ship, we expect to lay keels representing a tonnage of nearly 40,000.

Mr. Ridley

asked the Secretary of State for Defence, what is the total value of orders placed by his Department for new warships since October, 1964.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

Seven warships have been ordered at a total value of £72.5 million.
