HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 c564W
Mr. Maudling

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what allowance he has made in the 1966–67 Civil Estimates for the transfer of expenditure hitherto rate-borne to the Exchequer.

Mr. Callaghan

About £1 million in respect of street lighting of trunk roads. The 1966–67 Estimates also provide about £20 million to meet 75 per cent. of the cost of rate rebates under the Rating Bill at present before Parliament. There will, of course, be a transfer to the Exchequer of some £33 million in 1967–68 under the proposals put forward in the White Papers on Local Government Finance (Cmnd. 2921 and 2923).
