HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 cc569-70W
110. Mr. Robert Edwards

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies, on what charge Mohammed Saleh Aulaqi is detained in Al Mansura jail; for how long he has been detained; for how many days he was kept in solitary confinement; and for what further period it is proposed to detain him.

Mrs. White

Mohammed Saleh Aulaqi was arrested on 3rd October, 1965, and detained under the Aden Emergency Regulations, 1965, on the grounds of involvement in the activities of the National Liberation Front, the externally controlled instrument of terrorism in South Arabia.

He was at first held in detention at Fort Morbut at the same time as other suspected persons. On 25th October he was transferred to Al Mansura, where he was detained in segregation until 14th November when he was admitted to a communal ward. On 22nd December his case was reviewed by the tribunal which advises the High Commissioner in these matters. After considering the findings of the tribunal the High Commissioner decided that his continued detention was necessary in the interests of public security. He will be detained only for as long as this necessity remains.
