§ 68. Mr. Hoosonasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he is aware that the average weekly cost of maintenance of a dog in dog-handling establishments run by his Department is about £21 per per week; and whether he will reduce this cost.
§ Mr. MillanThe figure of £21 per week is mainly the cost of the pay and allowance of handlers, whom the dog assists in guard duties; the dog itself costs only about £2 per week on average. Whilst we are continually examining ways and means of reducing costs, I can see no possibility of any major reduction at the moment.
