§ 70 and 71. Brigadier Clarkeasked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what advantages the new Dockyard Incentive Bonus Scheme has over the previous 524W scheme, which has worked without friction for a number of years;
(2) what representations he has had from dockyard personnel for the Dockyard Incentive Bonus Scheme.
§ Mr. J. P. W. MallalieuThe main advantage of the new Dockyard Incentive Bonus Scheme over the old Job Price Contract System is that contracts are now expressed in terms of the time required to do a job instead of in terms of prices which had long since ceased to bear any relation to present day values. The new scheme provides realistic rewards for genuine effort but was not intended as a pay rise.
A few difficulties have arisen which are being sorted out with the trades unions through the Shipbuilding Trades Joint Council, but in general the scheme has proved acceptable to the majority of workpeople.
