48. Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what pro portion of the United Kingdom budget on penal research and criminology is spent in Scotland.

Mr. Willis

During the current year about one-eleventh of the payments made by the two Home Departments to non-Government organisations conducting research into the causes of delinquency and the treatment of offenders will be spent in Scotland. In addition a research unit based on the Home Office carries out direct research on behalf of both Departments.
