HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 c551W
Sir J. Langford-Holt

asked the Postmaster-General how many telephone kiosks in the London area were unserviceable on 1st January, 1965; how many were unserviceable on the latest available date; and by what date the percentage of serviceable to unserviceable kiosks will be up to the figure it was five years ago.

Mr. Joseph Slater

The figures for 1st January, 1965, are not available. On the 31st December, 1965, 4,738 call offices in the London Telecommunications Region were not in full working order; of these 3,624 could be used for emergency purposes. It is not possible to say when the position will improve, but a number of measures are in hand designed to deter vandals and thieves.
