HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 c548W
Mr. Ridley

asked the Minister of Aviation what was the total number of persons employed in the aircraft industry in October, 1964; what it is now; and what he expects it to be in 1970.

Mr. Mulley

For the United Kingdom as a whole, the labour force in the aircraft industry on the latest estimates in October, 1964, was 269,700, and December, 1965, 259,000. As I stated in the debate on the Plowden Report, I estimate that the labour force will be about 200,000 by 1970.
