§ Mr. PentlandAt 14th December, 1965, were 15,971 unemployed persons, just over 14 per cent. of all unemployed persons receiving assistance, whose allowances were restricted by reference to their usual earnings. The comparable figures for the four National Assistance Board offices serving Dorset were 39 and 6.5 per cent.; two of these offices also cover an extensive area outside the county boundary.
