HC Deb 08 March 1966 vol 725 cc486-7W
Sir Richard Glyn

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the average price paid to producers for liquid milk in the 12 months to the latest convenient date; what was the average price charged to the public in the same period; and if he will give the comparable figure for 1961.

Mr. Hoy

The net price received by milk producers for all milk sold through the marketing schemes in the financial year 1964–65 was 37.5d. a gallon and the average retail price of pasteurised milk was 72d. a gallon. The corresponding figures for 1961–62 were 33.25d. and 64d. a gallon. The difference between the producers price and the retail price is due partly to distribution costs and partly to the loss of milk sold for manufacture at prices below the guaranteed price.

In addition, in 1961–62, there was a small consumer subsidy.
