§ Mr. Malcolm MacMillanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many houses have been started and how many have been completed in the town of Stornoway in each year from 1958 to 1965, inclusive.
§ Mr. RossThe information is as follows:—
Houses Started Houses Completed For Stornoway Town Council For Private Owners For Stornoway Town Council For Private Owners 1958 20 1 29 7 1959 11 4 20 2 1960 — 18 11 14 1961 12 5 — 7 1962 — 18 12 8 1963 — 8 — 17 1964 28 14 8 7 1965 — — 20 12 I understand that private building has been encouraged by the town council, by the provision of sites, as a means of meeting the demand for higher amenity houses. The high turnover of local authority houses has assisted the town council to decant tenants voluntarily to houses suitable for their requirements. I am glad to hear that the council has plans in hand for additional house building.
