HC Deb 01 March 1966 vol 725 cc257-8W
Mr. Carmichael

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps he has taken to increase the number of shillings in circulation.

Mr. MacDermot

The Post Office and other Government Departments, nation-

alised industries, local authorities, banks and trade organisations have co-operated in our efforts to secure a better distribution of shilling pieces. The number in the hands of the public increased by 24 million in the last quarter of 1965 and a further minting has been made to meet future demand.
